I’ve just returned from Boston, MA after spending a month directing, building sets, and starring as Captain Hook for PETER PAN. From start to finish it was a two week rehearsal period with all local talent. I had done summer stock years ago, MY FAIR LADY with Jane Powell, and GEORGE M with Ken Berry for the Kenley Players in Ohio. You rehearse one show in the daytime, and perform the other at night. STEPS OFF BROADWAY is a small 125 seat theater, doing 4 shows in 8 weeks for the very first time. The artistic director, Keith Mottola, had brought me in a year ago to direct and star in WILLY WONKA. Four years ago SIMI A.R.T.S got me out of hibernation (I hadn’t been on the stage for 19 years, as I owned an acting school). But that show has put me back on the boards, and I haven’t stopped since. If you ever have the opportunity to be a part of summer stock, you should do it. It is an incredible experience for any young performer.
