Pirates of Penzance” (The Slave to Duty) is the classic Gilbert and Sullivan operetta that tells the whimsical tale of a merry band of pirates and their strict moral code that forbids them from assaulting orphans. Through music, melodrama and action packed dances, the pirates fall head over heels in love with the daughters of a Modern Major General. This updated Joseph Papp adaption was originally produced in New York in 1980. Brightly colored costumes, daring swordplay and frenetically paced patter songs are brought to the stage along with a full-sized pirate ship in this grand production that will feature the combined talents of more than 35 actors, 20 technicians, 25 musicians and 100 theater arts students from various classes.
