Director Allan Hunt is recreating his award-winning production of “Merry Wives” from the Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival here with the OPHS Performing Arts Program. Set in the swinging 1960’s England, we see Shakespeare’s beloved comedy presented with the words intact, but with mini-skirts, go-go boots, Nehru jackets and 100% Beatles music. Viewers will enjoy such beloved characters as Sir John Falstaff, who conspires to seduce the two merry wives, Mrs. Page and Mrs. Ford. These two mischievous ladies will turn the tables on him and the frantically jealous Mr. Ford adds to the mix. One of the funniest wedding scenes in all theater is the famous final scene of this merry comedy and promises to have the audiences bursting with laughter.
The show is produced by the Oak Park Performing Arts Alliance with production and crew supervision by Russ Peters. The student cast features Seniors Ben Rosen, Julia Parry and Grace Orriss as Sir John Falstaff, Margaret Page and Alice Ford respectively. Set construction and tech provided by the talented OPHS stage crew under the leadership of Junior Dylan Pfening. Costumes designed and styled by a team of students under the leadership of Senior Jenna Friedman.
