The Laramie Project is a riveting piece of naturalistic theater about a tragic hate crime. University of Wyoming student, Matthew Shepard, was killed in October 1998 because he was gay. Beaten and left for dead on a remote prairie, the play keeps the light of Matthew Shepard’s spirit forever shining.  The Laramie Project is a deeply moving theatrical experience, one that is a breathtaking collage of accounts from the over 200 interviews taken, not only from the trial of the two young men accused of the crime, but also spans the fascinating citizens of Laramie, some directly connected to the case, and others unaware.  The play brings to life a moment in our culture in which a life was taken by bigotry and hatred and explores how everyone tries to make sense of what happened, the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.
