A dramatization of the triumphant and turbulent life of the legendary “Empress of the Blues,” whose life was as large and as outrageous as her talent. Written by Angelo Parra, the play transports us to Memphis in 1937, one evening after a “Whites-only” theatre turns Bessie and her band away. Laughter, pathos and music all come together to deliver an electric, entertaining and surprisingly touching evening in which Bessie sings signature songs such as “I Ain’t Got Nobody,” “St. Louis Blues,” “Baby Doll” and “T’ain’t Nobody’s Bizness If I Do.” This production stars Miche Braden of the original Off-Broadway cast.
Tonight’s performance includes an afterparty with the cast.
