Severance Play, by Michael Perlmutter, is a black comedy about office politics, romance, sales, lies, sex and maybe a little murder. Elaine is running late for work; an important presentation is on the calendar, and her job may very well hang on the line. If indeed she shows up at all: she better have one helluva damned good excuse. She may; after all she found a head. But she may also have lied one too many times in the past for the truth to be able to set her free. And after all, what is free? And what is the truth?
Severance Play can help us laugh at ourselves as we examine being pinned on our own hamster wheels and what it sometimes takes to get loose. Looking at the ways in which we organize ourselves for the sake of civilization and then violate the terms of that organization for the sake of our humanity.
