Our Town is one of America’s most beloved plays. Written in 1938 by American playwright Thornton Wilder, it was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Described by Edward Albee as “…the greatest American play ever written,”, the story is of the fictional American small town of Grover’s Corners between 1901 and 1913, where everyone knows everyone’s business and the milkman still delivers milk. It begins with the Stage Manager in the form of a modern day “Greek Chorus” as he introduces the people and places of Grover’s Corners. The play is centered on the neighborhood of the Gibbs family and the Webb family. Each household has two children, and much of the play is centered on their relationship.
