The Moorpark College Theatre Arts Department is proud to announce its Fall 2014 production of Steven Dietz’s adaptation of “Dracula,” Bram Stoker’s classic tale of horror and suspense. This classic tale of gothic intrigue and sexual awakening will be performed on the Moorpark College campus from October 16th to October 26th on the main stage of the Performing Arts Center.
Steven Dietz’s adaptation of the Bram Stoker’s classic novel, “Dracula” is a suspenseful spellbinder that pays homage to the savagery and seduction of the original novel. The play is presented in a series of fear-fraught narratives, many of which are derived from letters and journal entries from Stoker’s classic, and includes an opening introduction from Renfield, Dracula’s rat-eating-human henchman. Audiences will be confronted by the Count of Darkness in his most frightening and graphic form. All of the suspense, horror and nightmarish imagery from the source material will be presented on the stage. This is NOT a production for the faint of heart (or children!). In an offering perfect for the Halloween season, “Dracula” promises to be a treat rolled up in gothic fog and frightening theatrical tricks.
“This isn’t going to be the black and white Bela Lugosi creature feature of your youth,” said John Loprieno, director and Theatre Arts Department Chair. “We had over 80 students audition for this production,” said Loprieno, “and this will be, by far, one of our most ambitious productions. Scenic Designer and Technical Director, Brian Koehler, will be bringing Dracula’s Castle and Lucy’s Tomb to life on the fog-filled stage and Costume and Make-up Designer and Theatre Arts faculty member, Haleh Risdana, will be producing the spectacular period costumes and horrific effects of blood and gore to help usher in the Halloween season.”
