The Moorpark College Theatre Arts Department is proud to announce its Fall 2015 production of John Cariani’s “Almost, Maine.” Cariani says this is”…a play about real people who are truly, honestly dealing with the toughest thing there is to deal with in life: Love.” This mischievous tale of romance, heartbreak and chill factors will be performed on the Moorpark College campus from October 15th to October 25th on the main stage of the Performing Arts Center.
According to the New York Times, “ALMOST, MAINE,” is “…a whimsical approach to the joys and perils of romance. Magical happenings bloom beneath the snowdrifts.” A cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend—almost—in this delightful midwinter night’s dream.
“Love: It’s messy, it’s scary, it’s beautiful, it’s exhilarating, and it’s vulnerable,” said Nicholas C. Pappas, Director and Theatre Arts Faculty member. “In some ways, falling in love mirrors the process of acting. You have to tear down barriers to let the emotion flood in,” said Pappas, “The students are tapping into something primal and going to some of the bravest places I’ve ever seen on our stage. It’s a ride that certainly won’t be expected”
“Scenic Designer and Technical Director, Brian Koehler, has created a winter wonderland on our main stage,” said John Loprieno, Producer and Theatre Arts Chair, “between the artic background and the winter fashions created by Costume and Make-up Designer and Theatre Arts faculty member, Haleh Risdana, Californians will be revived by this respite from the heat and enchanted by the chilly and romantic environment!”
“ALMOST, MAINE” will run October 15 through October 25 with evening performance from Thursday to Saturday @ 8:00pm and Sunday matinees @ 2:00pm on the main stage theatre at Moorpark College. Tickets may be purchased through the Moorpark College Performing Arts Center Box Office at (805) 378-1485 or online at www.moorparkcollege.edu/pac. Moorpark College is located at 7075 Campus Road in Moorpark, 93021.
