This play is an original work by 13 year old Teddy Skye Garcia, who has performed in several Hillcrest Players productions since the age of eight.  “I originally started writing A NARRATOR’S STORY because I’d been an actor in many shows that were written and directed by Victoria Sayeg here at Hillcrest, and had a fantastic time,” says Garcia. “My father and sister are both writers, and writing is something I always enjoyed doing, so when the idea for the show came to me, I figured I would give it a try and here we are!”

The play explores a world where a Narrator’s words can truly control everything, having one who can’t get their job quite right is a problem! Especially when they are living in the shadow of their super-famous narrator mother. Add a sarcastic director, unskilled lyricist, “deep” composer, some actors with “character,” and a pair of door-to-door salesmaniacs—throw them all in an RV—and hilarity and hijinks will ensue!

“While the show is a comedy, I feel like it has several good lessons and meanings at its core that the audience can take away from it,” says Garcia. “Some of these themes are issues that I’ve dealt with myself, some are things that others have dealt with. Stories about learning how to stand up for yourself.  About how you have the capability to do things even if someone doesn’t think you can. That your words have consequences.  About how you can find your way forward, and how things can and will change, and that’s not a bad thing. In the end, I wanted to write a fun story with something meaningful behind it.”

Hillcrest Players gives young people an opportunity to flex their artistic muscles in a one act play providing young performers with a positive experience to increase self-esteem, self-awareness and self-discipline.
