Young Artists Ensemble, the Conejo Valley’s premiere performing arts company for young people in the arts, won seven awards and seventeen nominations for their productions of 42nd Street and Willy Wonka at the ninth annual award presentation of the National Youth Arts Awards. The ceremony, which was held at the Hamilton Academy of Music’s Norman J. Pattiz Auditorium in Los Angeles, took place on May 25.
42nd Street was the big winner, garnering seven awards, including:
Outstanding Production: 42nd Street
Outstanding Ensemble: 42nd Street
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Musical: Austin Robert Miller (Julian Marsh)
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical: Leah Dalrymple (Dorothy Brock) & Isabella Moore (Peggy Sawyer)
Outstanding Direction: Ginny Grady
Outstanding Choreography: Tessa Grady
Nominees for additional awards went to Julian Comeau (Billy), Nia Colemon (Maggie), Emma Camp (Anytime Annie), Ariella Seltzer (Costume Design), Mark Reyes (Set Design), & Zachary Spencer (Musical Direction) for 42nd Street and Micah Meyers (Charlie Bucket), Kyle Warner (Augustus Gloop), Jaden Levinson (Veruca Salt), Christine Gibson (Costume Design), Andrew Persichetti (Hair/Makeup), Laura Mason (Director), and Mark Reyes (Lighting, Set, Sound Design) for Willy Wonka.
YAE has received awards for three consecutive years. Last year they received six awards for their productions of Cabaret and The Hobbit.
